I spent about an hour talking to a lady from NPR today on the phone. They wanted some sound bites about my feelings about the Death Sentence given Tookie Williams, the founder of the Cript Gang and the man who murdered my brother about 20 years ago. I have no idea how much, if any, of it they will use, but I know that it will depend on how the editor and reporter want to use it. I tried to point out that I don't hate anyone, but I do think the Nobel nomination and children's books are just leverages to get him out of the death penalty. And that once he got out of that his lawyer would be working for a new trial or some way to get him out. I don't need him dead. It is not about revenge. I just think that redemption comes from accepting responsibity, something he has never done. Till that there is no redemption, and without that I don't ever want to see him on the street.
