Chapter 56
“The Arena”

The gargantuan four legged opponent thundered as it grew near Baron Vaskania, roaring like something out of a Ray Harryhausen movie. Its horns and the shields around its neck were flailing violently as it ran.

Vaskania stood his ground (like he was going to be able to out run something with a stride of 20 feet). As the mammoth creature neared him he braced himself for a leap. As the thing came forward he ran at it, planting a foot right into the thing’s knee and leaping up to grasp the boney ridge of the shield.

Sanchez moved around as the towering yellow thing came at him, it was silent and so was he. The rush was not so headlong as the other giant. Sanchez knew if he was within grasp he would die.

Emilio knew he would have only one chance, but he had been in this sort of situation many times before. You don’t get out of intelligence without it.

Vaskania’s run and leap took him to a handhold, and that allowed him to pull his way up onto the neck of the beast. The mammoth monster went wild.

It began pushing its tusk into the ground and trying to dislodge the aggravation on its back.

Though he had never tried to ride a bull, even an electronic one, the Baron held on for dear life.

The creature threw its head back and still couldn’t get rid of the little thing that was its enemy.

Sanchez used his net to trip the prodigious brute. Once the monstrosity hit the ground Emilio’s spear pierced first on tendon and then the second. It would have been the Achilles tendon in a human, but in this thing it wouldn’t be right to call it that.

The thing writhed on the ground, unable to rise. Sanchez looked to his companion to see the Baron’s sword sink into his adversary’s second eye.

Vaskania jumped from his perch on the monster, and watched as it rammed into the wall, taking all the screaming watchers with it.

Sanchez joined Vaskania in the center of the ring.

Kane was standing with his hands over his eyes.

It almost looked like the evil one was crying.

His hands came down from his eyes to show his hysterical laughter.

“They were saints on their own worlds,” He screamed, “And look what you did to them!”

The Baron did not bat an eye as he responded, “We did not kill them, that’s what we did. We did not make them kill us, either.”

Damien Kane snapped his fingers and they were in a clearing in an overgrown jungle. Vaskania was holding a rifle. Sanchez had a machete.

The grinning killer turned to the pair and whispered, “The day has just begun.”
