What should be the rules
Sep. 16th, 2004 05:32 pmIn sports they have rules. Sometimes they change, and people scream that the game has been ruined, but they go along. Sometimes the game gets better, sometimes they go back to the old rules. But everyone knows what the rules are, and if they break them, they know that they are doing that, also.
Life should have rules. I think that is how religions get started. Somebody wants to write the rules. But then come the different bureaucrats to change things and alter the rules. Some of these rules get overly fine tuned and we get wars. And during wars the rules, all the rules, go out the window.
That's when I think of what I call the "Bogart Morality." In his films the characters (the pretty much good guys, that is) always had a pretty well defined line. Somethings were flexible, but there were things you didn't do. I would like to propose mine. You can take these and do whatever you want, but these are the rules I think that life should have to live by.
1.No one should have to be alone unless they want to be alone.
2.No one should have to die alone.
3.No one should live in fear.
4.No one should live in ignorance.
5.No one should be judged, either by society or themselves, as more or less worthwhile than anyone else.
6.Everyone should be able to sing.
7.Everyone should be able to dance.
8.Everyone should feel like doing 6 & 7 now and then.
9.No one should feel ugly.
10.No one should ever feel that no one cares.
There are more, but I think you get the idea. Will these laws be enforced? Only in your heart can it start. It can go only so far as you are willing to live it.
But know this, there is someone out there that wants to like you, if you let them. But you must get out of the way of the judgment. You have to take your thumb off your own image. Until you decide you are worthy of the rules, the rules cannot work for anyone else. You deserve to live by the rules. So do I. So do we all.
