I have ever been a proponent of progress, but not change for its own sake. Today I saw a report on the news that a team of Doctors in Denmark are preparing the first full face transplant. Many immediately thing, "Wow, can this be misused!" I understand that, but I have know several people with severe damage from fire or accident who would finally be able to return to some sort of normality. Yes, it could be used for the wrong purpose, but it could also do a lot of healing. So, it is progress and I'm for it Cautiously.
But there are several changes around us that I regret.
Growing up in a culture that didn't believe man could own anything, only borrow it from nature, I mourn the lack of a people who understand the term "An Embarrassment of Riches."
I fear we have lost the idea of Arthur. Not "Might is Right" but "Might For Right." Must everyone stand back from us? Are we the bullies of the world? That is not progress.
I a sad that the idea of "Walking a mile in the other guys shoes," has been discounted. When "Fuck 'em" is more easily heard than "Wonder why they thought that?" we have not gone up the evolutionary hill, but slipped back down.
When the most powerful man in the world comes from a religion that believe we are in the "End Times" and could well be pushing that rapturous agenda, we had best look to our humanity.
Reach out to others, while you can. There is the ghost of fascism looming over us, and the moral fiber to fight it from within is in short supply.
Remember, we now live somewhere that anyone who doesn't agree with those in charge are considered unpatriotic. We've heard this before. Listen now.
When they came for the unionists, I was not in a union so I said nothing.
When they came for the muslims, I was not a muslim so I said nothing.
When they came for the liberals, I was not a liberal so I said nothing.
When they came for me there was no one left to say anything.
Speak now. Speak for civility, humanity and the future.
Do not give up this world.
It was a present you were put here to take care of, never forget that.
