Everyone reluctantly returned to their seats, but Mickey’s presence in the room had taken on the Elephant in the living room dimension.
“Calm down, kiddo,” His brother spoke to him in his head, “We will get through this.”
No matter how hard the tried not to look around, the boy found himself glancing around expecting others to be staring. He caught each person in the room at least once. But after the lecture started, that
happened less frequently.
They were informed that people in this building were descended from mythical gods of every culture. But which deity started your line, you were unique in the way your powers exhibited themselves.
They also found more out about those who were vying for position in the world with the Inheritors.
One group was known as the Giants and Mages. This was an ancient alliance between sorcerers and the giant race that had lived at the center of the earth before man began to explore. Goliath and Merlin may or may not have belonged to this confederacy, but it was impossible to know. The years had washed away what few real records there were and replaced them with fanciful tales that were amended to fit different teller’s topical needs.
There was also the Monsters Guild. These were beings that occurred from time to time who sought out each other mainly for survival. “These are your ‘Mutants!’” They had been told. Mostly they were used as pawns by those with an agenda, and had become a mercenary element. Usually they were just willing to do whatever was needed, but had no special abilities.
There was the occasional business man (not a member of Seaco) who found out to much and wanted to cash in. These were an aggravation, but little more.
At one time the Lemurians were a concern, but they had seemed to finally die off. They had been an empire built upon the ruins of Lemuria, Moo & Atlantis. They were powerful scientists and had been responsible for many wondrous breakthroughs that the world would never know.
The Immorti were fairly self contained, and rarely worked in congress with each other. There was the rare case when the community felt they had to deal with a single member who was threatening to create a problem. But that hadn’t happened since the 1400’s. There existence had recently become known in a set of books called “Infinity Express.” But, since the books were labeled as Science Fiction there was a good chance no one would ever take them seriously.
David made a note to look up the books. If they were real, maybe they mentioned his father.
(They didn’t.)
The group was going to be schooled in the use of the powers at 1st period tomorrow, but tonight they were going to be given a tour of the facility and attend a “mixer’ to meet as many new comrades to be as possible.
David thought of Sanna.
Mickey shoved an elbow in his brother’s rib and the two of them laughed.
They stopped when Dr. Thursday gave them a stern glare.
She started to speak when the alarms began to scream again. Lights blared and people ran past the room door.
“Go to your room!” The Doctor ordered, and they complied without question.
She was that kind of authority figure.
The boys got to their room quickly, and were surprised to find the door open.
When both boys had entered the room, the door slammed shut.
Behind the door was Sanna, who smiled at them.
Mickey heard a thump, and a ring of pain shot through his head.
David fell to the floor, and Mickey saw that Mr. Throop was standing over him with a metal pipe.
He turned to ask Sanna for help and was answered with flashing eyes and a fist that was charged with electrical current.
He shivered with pain, and then fell to the floor.
His consciousness was fading when he heard Throop say, “Game Over!”
