Jul. 15th, 2005 01:50 amThe glowing buzzing things drew close to Mickey’s face. First he dodged, out of knee jerk fear. Then he forced himself to look straight at one of the things.
What he saw was a fragile, glowing creature with intricate, tiny features. The things couldn’t be any larger than an ant, and yet they looked to be fully formed human-like figures.
They had silken pointed wings that batted at a speed that was beyond counting.
As the boy looked closely it seemed the thing was trying to talk, but the buzzing of the hundreds of wings made that impossible to hear.
Another moment and it was clear that there was no danger from the flying figures.
“Everyone out!” The tiny figure next to Mickey screamed in a voice that almost sounded like it came from a full sized human.
In an instant the cabin cleared of all the buzzing creatures but one.
“I am Fellanorita,” Said the tiny female, “I am commanding general of the Fairy Attack Contingent #1. Who is in charge of your forces?”
Colonel Stonedragon stepped forward, “Colonel Stonedragon of the Thunderbase force.”
He held his hand out, and the tiny individual used both hands to shake his extended pointer finger.
“We have 150 fairy force members, 50 Pellian trolls (not smart, but incredibly strong) and 3 dragons (though Taggarumph is old and not what he once was, the other two Wondafrink and
Firesign are young and in the full force of their youth,” The fairy general informed them.
A thunderous banging came from the hatchway. “Gotta talk!” A low growling voice demanded.
Their new ally looked to Stonedragon and said, “That’s Pagot, the Leader of the Trolls,” She began to fly backwards, toward the hatch, “They are easily distracted. I had better talk to
him.”
Stonedragon nodded understanding and turned to his comrades.
“We,” He confided in them, “Must develop our own strategy for the looming battle.”
As they talked, Mickey turned back and saw the hatchway opened and the troll stepped in. Mickey couldn’t take his eyes off the sight of the bulky subhuman warrior talking to the golden dot humming around his head.
Dragons and fairies and trolls would be fighting at his side. Now his superhero comic book life had grown to include epic fantasy characters.
