Chapter 30
The Passage
Cela of Tar stood in the center of her friends. They were prepared to do the spell, but she sensed a slight trepidation amongst them.
“Numbers are numbers until the end of time,” she said reassuringly. “Nothing we can do will change that. Facts are facts and shall always be facts; we will not, nor can we deny them.”
She was turning to look each of them directly in the face as she spoke, “But, knowing that truth to be what it is, we all know of a place. A place where something more comes. When we know there is nothing more, but we must summon up something, we go to that place. When we need the impossible, we go to that place. That place is the magic. It is as simple as that. That place just out of sight, but not out of reach, where we must call upon something more than we are allowed to sense with our eyes. That is the place we will go to bridge the space between this land and that of Techlamange. It is ever so far, and infinitely near to us. It is nearly within us and stretches on forever.”
The pendant around her neck began to glow; a circle of golden light spread from her in a circle that slowly, gently, extended to include the others.
After a moment nothing could be seen but the light. Even the ground beneath their feet was replaced with the shimmering glow.
There was no fear to be had, no wariness. The golden light gave only the feeling of inclusion, of belonging.
They were all aware that they had become a part of something. They were all connected in a way they would have thought impossible only moments before.
As the glow began to fade, Techlamange came into view, and it was nothing like any of them would have, or could have imagined.
