The final assessment.
This was a wonderful faire that deserved a greater audience.
That said, here are a couple of singular points.
This cast was spot on, from the newbies to the seasoned veterans, they gave an amazing amount of commitment to the show and it was easily apparent. I won't single anyone out because they all made me proud.
The musical voice of this faire was a joy. Everywhere you went you heard music, everybody sang, everybody jammed. It was mentioned to me time after time. This was the most musical festival ever.
With the occasional tendency to clump (which happens a lot when the participants outnumber the patrons, but still...) we had interactivity that made our visitors smile and feel included. That is just what we wanted.
The weddings got better and better and MUST become a permanent part of the show.
The Elizabeth/Mary storyline was brilliantly handled by all concerned, and might also be considered for return.
Whoever is ED next year inherits a group of performers and ideas that make me endlessly proud. If that person is me, I don't know yet. But I will tell you, despite a lot of my rookie mistakes I am proud to be involved with the wonder that was 2009 at White Hart. Bless you all. Additional feelings
BTW: About the acts that haven't yet been paid. Pam and I are among you. There were acts that were added after the budget that I was working with at the beginning of this endeavor, but even so, the gate killed us. I thought that the stage show budget was put aside, but I was mistaken. Even so, I was committed to the faire and hoped that others were also. If my "Shame on you" comment offended you, I personally apologize t you, but it was how I felt. I worked the whole faire for free, then, because of cast drop out, I worked 4 shows in one day as Seymoure on top of everything else. It wasn't what i signed on for, but I did it for the faire and those who had become my family. I wouldn't hold it against anyone if they didn't want to work with me or the festival again. It is a business. I would be sorry to lose any of those friends. If I don't come back it will have nothing to do with money. It will have to do with my personal physical problems and my mental health. This thing of "smile and go on" is not natural to me. This thing of "watch what you say, people will pass it on" isn't either. I still love all those I loved a week ago, that hasn't changed. I hope the wounds heal soon.
