Entitlement
May. 29th, 2004 12:53 amEntitlement is a term we have to come to terms with. No one is entiyled to anything. They can have things, they can even deserve things, but the world gives what we are entitled to. Light, water, air and chances. We are looking around and seeing people who demand what they are entitled to, but we choose to give, that's what it is. Now, before you see me as one of those rich white men who think everyone should "earn" the right to be like me, I am neither white nor rich. I will admit to being a man. If I were king of the world, I see that no one went hungry and everyone had what they needed. But when you think you are entitled you need to earn nothing. Everyone is not entitled to an internet connection, free cable and free cd and player. I would love it if you all had that, but you were not born in a world that gives those things to everyone, so you are not entitled. You entitle yourself. I have many things, and I am grateful for them. We have worked hard for what we have, or they were given to us by someone who worked hard for them. For that I am grateful. That's it! People need to feel entitled so they don't have to be grateful. If that is so, I am sad about that, because gratitude is a great human trait. I hope it is not another part of our humanity we are trying to program out of ourselves.
