Mickey & his family (minus David, who still was not up to doing much) plus Jeremy and Colonel Stonedragon stood around waiting for the jump jet to arrive.
The precognitive who had joined the McCauleys back to their digs had given them the location that they would have find.
Mickey had had a discomfortable feeling when he saw the attack in Russia.
There was just something not right here. Why would the Knight steal whatever it was he stole, just to attack a world capitol? His plans were bigger than that.
It had to be a diversion.
He knew it, but how does a kid tell all the superpowerful adults around him that they are falling into the same lure they had fallen for at Groom Lake?
Luckily others were as sharp as he was, which he found to be a happy surprise.
Now the five of them had been pointed to the real location and the real target of the conflagration in the heart of Moscow.
“You may need to enable your parents,” The Colonel told Mickey, “For we are the only hope to find and stop this program.”
His mother on one side, and his father on the other, both gave his hand a squeeze at the exact same instant.
Mickey laughed.
The jubilance quickly exited the bay, as the plane set down.
When the pilot waved them all in, they were inside within 2 minutes. They were strapped in and the flight begun in another 2.
Thunderbase was fading behind them, and no one said a word.
The plane took a turn upward, and they achieved high altitude in seconds. This near orbital path should bring them to their destination in moments.
Mickey grasped the hand rests with a vice like grip. He had never been more nervous, and it had no where to go.
He didn’t know what he was going to do when they reached the site where the Knight would begin his siege of humanity.
It, otherwise, would be nice to see Kansas again. © 2005 by C. Wayne Owens
