Have you ever read a book that, upon closing it, you were still, stunned by the brilliance and heart? How I missed it all these years I don't know. It would make the greatest TV Mini-series (BBC not the regular networks) with roles that actors would bleed for. May, indeed, be one of the greatest SF works ever.

It feels as though this 1953 novel could easily have been the inspiration the the entire "Star Trek" universe, and that is saying something!
